I never want to die. Living forever would suit me just perfectly. I mean, if you lived forever, there would be no need to rush seeing things in life, no hassle knowing that Death could strike upon you, and only you, at any moment. If Death came for me, I would go, not wanting to disrupt the cycle of life and death. But I just hope Lady Luck stays by my side I this crazed world. So far, she has guided me into so many good things, I’m starting to wonder when it will start to run off of me, like rain rolling of the water-proof jacket. Except I was a living thing, dealing with actual stuff, instead of having to worry when my next wash will be…
My gait was considerably spaced larger than usual. I was easily gliding through the sandy beach, with only one care. Where was Lilo. She had disappeared last night, when going for a hunt. I was extremely worried for my younger sister. We had bonded very closely over the years. Adolf was still alive, wandering somewhere in the desert from what I’ve heard. Shadow had ran off with some female to a land beyond my territory of land. My other sibling, whose name I have forgotten, died when she was only six weeks old, from the rats.
The rabid rats had bitten her, leaving her to suffer with the rabies herself. Father and even Mother a little sadly, agreed it would be best to put her out of her misery. So, they had simply done a swift bite to the small neck of hers, and it was all over. She was never mentioned again, until Mother and Father died. Lilo and I had stayed up endless nights, discussing our siblings and parents. It never once bothered us, until I mentioned Adolf to Lilo. Lilo had grown a close bond with Adolf slowly, and had eventually came to look up at him as an idol. But, when he left, I was the only one left for her to share her feelings with. So, she did.
I ran around with my odd gait for a while, eventually tiring. I hadn’t noticed while running that my strong, yet petite, paws had carried me to the beach. The beach was a wonderful place. Well, to us dogs. Humans believe it’s haunted, so only the most daring boys and girls come here to play. One dog even started a rumor that the water could speed up the healing process. I haven’t had many wounds, so I can’t say if that is true or not. The golden sand also always sank underneath even a Chihuahua’s weight. It was never hard or crusty. It was simply wonderful sand to play on. For example, if you fell, the sand would cushion your fall.
I felt my paws sink into the golden, tiny particles of the sand. It felt simply wonderful to me. And, with the sun beating down on my fur, it felt even better than before. I could feel the heat of the sun mixing with my red wheaten fur. My beautiful, red wheaten fur that could dazzle you in a minute. I could smell the salt of the ocean; I could feel the water lapping the sand and my drooping tail. My orbs followed the water’s every movement, just waiting for something to pop out and scare me. I made sure to walk about five inches away from the beach. A safe enough distance for the what ever haunts this beach to not be able to reach me. My orbs finely stopped watching the beach, and they wandered over to some well protected bushes. Perfect. It was almost like it was there just for me.
I padded gently over to it, gently and timidly. If a creature was in there, I wouldn’t be the one to disturb it and anger it. I examined the bright green leaves and determined if something was in there or not. From my view, I could not tell. I guess I would have to take a chance. I gently stuck the tip of my nose into the bush, and waited to see if anything woukd slash it, tear it off, or bite it. Nothing did. I stuck my muzzle a little farther the prickly, yet soothing, leaves. Nothing happened. I repeated this process, until eventually my whole body was inside of the wonderful bush. Ah. Finely, a place where I can rest for a while. Just for a little while.
If you were able to see me in the tangle of brushes, you would think I was dead, or almost dead. My chest barley rose (I had learned from my father, that the littler you move your chest when sleeping, the more any predator will think your dead, and leave you alone.), and the two crowns on my back was flattened against some leaves. The leaves didn’t move once. Not a twitch; not a movement. While I was sleeping, I dreamed.
I dreamed of Lilo, Adolf, Shadow, and the dead pup. I dreamed that we were all reunited, and that we all promised never to leave each other ever again. I dreamed that when they slept, I looked at all of them dreamily, wishing I had pups of my own, to call ‘son’ or ‘daughter’. I dreamed that when they woke up, we all took a trip to the beach. I dreamed that all of the pups strayed to close to the water, and that the creature in the deep blue came and grabbed them, gobbling them up in its horrible jaws, crunching them with its yellow, decaying teeth. Blood was everywhere; I was yelling no. Wait. Was that me? I turned around, in my dream, and saw mother and father. They where running full speed at the creature. The creature laughed, and simply shoved them into his horrible mouth also. I was so outraged by this time, I ran full speed at the creature to, only to find myself in its horrible jaws, also.
“Ahhhhh!” I yelled, waking up. I was twitching all over, and very scared. I remembered the dream so vividly, that I could practically smell the smells, and taste the tastes. I shook my head, trying to shake the image out of my brain, along with my brain if I needed to dispose of it to dispose of the horrible dream. I slowly stood up, and walked out of the bushes, yawning and stretching. I was still shaking as I got closer to the water. I sat down ten centimeters away from the water now. Very close- to close. I made my orbs lock onto the water, waiting for the creature that had given me the nightmare to suddenly burst out, with all of my known family inside its disgusting mouth.
I watched the movement of the waves, waiting for any sudden change. Nothing happened, but I still watching the ocean closely. This time, I wasn’t going to let it out of my sight. Or so I thought..
I whipped my head around, hearing a crack. It came from the bushes where I was resting just moments ago. Oh no, I thought, its going to smell me, then it will want to rip me apart for sleeping in ITS den .I tensed my body, and waited for something ugly to come out and savage me. But, I would fight it to the death if I needed to, even if the sun was beating down hard enough that my pelt felt as if it was on fire. On fire……
