I looked around silently, ears perked, nostrils flaring. I was laying down at the moment, perfectly comfortable under a garbage bin. Past the smell of garbage, I could smell another dog. The scent was moving towards me. I snorted a bit, hoping that the other dog wouldn't see me. The last thing I needed was a fight. I stayed alert, listening as the padding of paws reached me. I looked out from under the dumpster, making sure not to be seen, taking int he dog that appeared at the end of the alley way.

I had been wandering these streets forever. I had come here expecting people and dogs. And I had gotten exactly what I had been expecting. But I had carried on my way, ducking in and out of alleys in search of something I could eat. I hadn't had much luck so far. All I had found was trash, and it was beginning to irritate me quite a bit. I had darted across the streets and searched the back ways of clubs, restaurants, and all else sU had decided to check. But still, I hadn't found a single thing. Not that I had expected I would. I hadn't found something near-decent enough to call food in a few days. But I was holding up well, as I had grown stable and strong throughout my street life. I couldn't deny that I was going to have to eat sooner or later, so I supposed I would go ahead and take care of it. At that moment, I had not been paying attention, lost in thought. This caused me to run right into the legs of a tall man, who swore and kicked out at me. Surprised, his kick landed, knocking hard against my shoulder and pushing me back. I snarled viciously, baring my teeth, causing him to aim another kick at me. This one missed, though narrowly. Deciding now was no time for attracting dog snatchers, I swiftly turned into another alley, not even noticing the other dog peering out at me.

I cursed inwardly to myself as I watched another dog, a Doberman like myself, run into the alley. But that wasn't why I cursed. It was leading a human in dangerously close to me. I slipped out from under the dumpster, growling and snarling. The man just looked at me, so I took drastic measures. Crouching, I raised my hackles, growling deeper and louder. He backed up a bit too slowly, and I lunged at him. Watching as he turned and ran with his metaphorical tail between his legs, I then turned to the other dog, not sure if I should give it the same treatment, or if I should play nice. Either way, I decided, I crouched low. If it came to a fight, then I would be a smaller target, and I could spring my full weight at an opening. If I needed to run, I could tear out of the alley faster than the human had. I hoped neither would have to happen, but by this point I knew hope was useless.

Suddenly, from the earth itself it seemed came a fellow Doberman, a male younger than myself. He snarled and lunged, causing the human that had harassed me to retreat quickly. But then he turned on me and crouched low, as if ready to spring again. I, myself, lowered into a defensive crouch, a snarl ripping through my bared teeth. "I appreciate you chasing the human away, boy, but if you should turn on me, take in mind I shall not be unprepared." I said, letting him know that I did have pride.

I watched as the other dog crouched, and couldn't help but laugh a bit. "I wish you no harm. I was merely getting ready in case you wished it on me." I didn't switch my posture from the defensive, however. I knew that other dogs could be ruthless and cunning. Circling slowly around her towards the dumpster, my eyes never left her.

I relaxed slightly, but not fully due to the fact he was still circling me. I watched him curiously, before sighing and stretching. "The name's Firefly." I said, staring at him for another moment. "And I mean you no harm. I was simply trying to escape from that human." Her lips pulled back in a snarl at the thought, but she quickly composed herself, beginning to watch the younger male circling her again.

I loosened up a little bit, nodding. "My name's Flank," I said quietly. Going against all my instincts, I turned my back to her, reaching under the bin and pulling out some of the meat I'd stashed. The piece I pulled out had a couple of maggots here and there. I took one paw and brushed them to the side, for her sake. "Are you hungry?" I asked, back still turned to her. OOC: Fun fact: All but one species of maggot eats only dead tissue. Swallowing some would not be harmful to your health, it would be benificial. Still wouldn't want to though.

I watched the male, slightly surprised when he asked if I was hungry. I considered for a moment. I was hungry, yes, but did I really want to open up so easily to a stranger. It's just food. Pointed out my mind, and I chuckled to myself before I nodded. "I am. Thank you." I said, hesitantly taking a step forward, watching Flank for a reaction.

I carefully stepped back as she came towards me. I stayed a respectable distance, never taking my eyes off of her. "Are you a wanderer or do you live around here?" It was a random question. It honestly didn't matter. No matter what she said, I was going to stay for a few days, then be on my way, just like always. However, if she was a nomad like myself, then I might consider taking a travelling companion. After all, Winter was on us now, and it never hurt to have some extra body heat to curl up with at night.
